Scope of Research Activities In August 2012, the Foundation finalised a research strategy for the years 2012 to 2017. For an executive summary click here to download.Aims The Foundation identified the following three core aims:1.To undertake and support the conduct of world-class research that enhances the quality of life through improved treatments, rehabilitation and prevention of complications following SCI.2.To ensure a professional scientific framework within the NSIC that enables the conduct and dissemination of high quality SCI research.3.To bring together the stakeholders of SCI research and utilize relevant data sources necessary for the evaluation of the complex nature of SCI health care delivery.ThemesAs these core aims cover the whole span of SCI research, the Foundation will initially focus on research projects that fall under the following main themes:•Acute care and rehabilitation following SCI.•Independent living after SCI.•Prevention and management of adverse eventsCross-cutting Research Topics1.Novel techniques and assistive devices enhancing functional activities.2.Effective health service delivery for spinal cord injury.3.Age-related health issues in spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
